The Driving Theory Test

We recommend that all learners aim to pass their theory test within the first 10 - 15 hours of driving lessons. This allows you to focus fully on practical driving and accelerates your progress towards your test.

Driving Theory Test Preparation

Passing your driving theory test is a legal requirement before you can book your practical driving test. The theory test ensures that you understand the rules of the road, can recognise hazards, and are prepared to drive safely and responsibly.

The test consists of two parts:

  • A multiple choice section, based on The Highway Code, road signs, and essential driving knowledge

  • A hazard perception section, where you identify developing hazards using video clips

Both parts must be passed to progress to your practical driving test.

At DTMK Driving School, we strongly encourage learners to begin theory preparation early. Understanding the theory behind driving will accelerate your practical progress and help you become a safer, more confident driver.
