Show Me & Tell Me Questions

During your practical driving test, the examiner will ask you two vehicle safety questions.

  • One “Tell Me” question before you start driving

  • One “Show Me” question while you are driving

These questions are designed to check your basic understanding of vehicle safety and controls. They are not designed to trick you.

If you answer a question incorrectly, it is normally recorded as a driver fault rather than a serious fault. We practise these regularly during lessons so that you feel calm and confident on test day.

Tell Me Questions

(Asked before you start driving)

You will be asked to explain how you would carry out a safety check. You do not need to physically demonstrate it at this stage, just explain clearly.

Below are the official types of Tell Me questions you may be asked. We will practise each one in your lesson vehicle so you understand how it applies specifically to your car.

Show Me Questions

(Asked while driving)

During the test, the examiner will ask you to demonstrate how you would operate a specific control.

You must carry out the task safely while maintaining proper control of the vehicle. If you are unsure, it is better to ask for clarification than to guess.

Below are the Show Me tasks you may be asked. The diagrams and videos demonstrate how these controls work in our training vehicle.

We will practise these regularly throughout your training so that they become second nature well before your test.
